How Does Hot Yoga Work?

Hot yoga is simply the practice of yoga within a secret environment. Don’t overthink it!

Hot yoga can have tremendous benefits like increased flexibility, increased strength, and stress relief.

With that said hot yoga can give your heart, lungs, and muscles an even greater, more intense workout.

True Hot Yoga combines the best of traditional hot yoga and classical Vinyasa yoga practiced in a heated room. The elevated temperature usually stays around 102°F with 50-60% humidity. The heat paired with the humidity helps warm up the muscles, increase flexibility, promote detoxification through sweating, and assist in mindfulness. The heat is an added challenge, improving circulation and pushing you (but not too hard) to be your favorite and most determined self.

What is hot yoga?

Hot yoga is a dynamic workout performed in a heated room, typically between 90-105°F, designed to boost flexibility, burn calories, and improve cardiovascular health. This intense practice promotes detoxification through sweat, enhances muscle strength, and supports stress relief and mental clarity. Popular styles like Bikram yoga and heated vinyasa flow challenge endurance while promoting deep stretching and relaxation. Whether you're looking to increase mobility, build bone density, or relieve tension, hot yoga offers a full-body workout with powerful mind-body benefits.

Hot yoga classes involve a variety of poses. At True Hot Yoga, we focus on traditional and classical vinyasa-style yoga in a heated room.

Recovery Tips

If you’re in good health, hot yoga is generally safe. But, as with most types of exercise, there are some safety precautions to keep in mind.

  • Hydrate

Drink your water and ensure that you are getting your electrolytes as well. With all of the sweating that you are doing, it is important to stay hydrated!

  • Cleanse Your Body

Take a shower and clean your body. With excessive sweating, it will be important that you get any bacteria off of your body.

  • Nourish Your Body

You can burn as many as 600 calories in a Hot Yoga class (this varies per person) so it will be very important to replenish your body with whole foods and nutrient-dense snacks after class. HB Wellness is a popular protein shake shop nearby!

Getting Started

True Hot Yoga welcomes all levels, including beginners. Our experienced instructors provide guidance for all abilities, offering modifications to suit your needs. If you have any injuries or physical limitations, please inform your teacher before class.

If you’re ready to give hot yoga a try, consider these tips to get started:

  • Wear lightweight, breathable fabrics that wick away sweat to keep you comfortable during your practice.

  • Bring a towel to cover your mat, as it may become slippery once you start sweating. You might also want to bring an extra towel for your face and hands.

  • Don’t forget a large, insulated water bottle filled with cold water to stay hydrated throughout your session.
